From Cramped to Comfortable: A Smart Remodel with Big Impact
When this Lakeshore Burlington homeowner reached out to us, they had two major pain points—a tiny, outdated bathroom and a guest bedroom with odd quirks that just didn’t function well. They wanted a brighter, more spacious bathroom, complete with a bathtub for their grandchildren, and a guest room that felt more intentional and welcoming.

The Project:
Bathroom Expansion & Remodel – We removed walls, gutted the entire space, and eliminated a hallway linen closet to extend the bathroom from 5’x5’ to 5’x8’, making room for a deep soaking tub and a full-sized vanity for much-needed storage and functionality.
Guest Bedroom Refresh – We removed an awkward closet, removed the old, worn laminate flooring, and replaced it with plush grey carpet, creating a cozier, more inviting space.
Material Selection & Design – The client chose light green 4×4 square tiles with wavy edges for the tub surround, grey marble-patterned tile for the floor, plush grey carpet in the bedroom, and rich sage green walls to blend seamlessly with their century home’s charm.
The Challenge:
During demolition, we made a major discovery—the bathroom’s low 7’ ceiling was actually a false ceiling. The original home design allowed for a vaulted ceiling up to 9.5’, so we opened up the space for a dramatic, airy feel.
We also addressed hidden inefficiencies:
Upgraded attic insulation from R12 to R50, boosting the home’s energy efficiency
Installed a properly vented bathroom fan to prevent future mold issues
Cleaned and mitigated existing mold growth from previous poor ventilation
The Result?
In just under three weeks, we transformed a dark, cramped bathroom into a bright, spacious, and luxurious retreat. The guest bedroom now offers ample storage, a plush feel underfoot, and a cozy elegance that perfectly suits this historic Lakeshore Burlington home.
